Beautification program of the main ancestral graveyard

Beautification program of the main ancestral graveyard

Whenever the yearly “spring festival” comes, committee and ordinary members visit the main graveyard and always feel that the graveyard lacks something or is not complete. The association knows something needs to be done but somehow can’t quite figure out what is wrong with the main graveyard. We only know it has to do with “Fengshui”.

So we invited some Fengshui experts to investigate the graveyard. We discovered that an area at the back portion of the graveyard was hollow underneath. It could have a direct influence on the prosperity and well being on the descendants of Kwong Siew people. “Fengsui” plays an important role in the lives of Chinese people and the society. Some say It can shape the fate of Kwong Siew people. We hope by proper better positioning of the graveyard the association will be able to produce better qualified leaders to lead Chinese guilds and associations in the country.

We felt there was a need to redesign and rebuild the main graveyard from scratch. The committee therefore had to convene an (EGM) extraordinary general meeting on the 18/08/2001 to seek members’ approval to spend not more than RM80,000.00 on the beautification program of the ancestral main graveyard. The resolution was unanimously passed. Money was collected from members’ donations and also from the association.

On the 6/10/2001 a special ceremony was held. During one of its construction phases, 19 ancestors’ remains were discovered. Their remains were found in the records. Later however there were also another 190 remains that were found in the vicinity of the main graveyard. The association decided that all these 200 remains had to be exhumed and reburied in a single lot inside the main graveyard.

Beside the unusual find of the 200 remains and its burial relocation. We also had to consider the overall fengshui burial location of the late Cheong Yoke Choy – a founder of the association - in relation to the overall terrain of the main graveyard. With regard to the grave site of Cheong Yoke Choy, we checked with his descendents, Madam Kok Yuet Ling and obtained her understanding and blessing of her ancestral new burial site.

On the 16/12/2001 the beautification of the ancestral main graveyard was completed and a special ceremony was held to bless the place and the dead.
